Ecosia: The search engine that plants trees

Have you heard about Ecosia.org, the search engine that plants trees? The ‘world’s greenest search engine’ donates a whopping 80% of their profits from search ad revenue to tree planting. So, planting trees was as easy as searching the web.

This new and unique search engine is based on technology from Yahoo and Bing and provides the search results as well as sponsored links for the site.

According to Christian Kroll, founder of the Berlin-based firm, Ecosia believes that there is a more eco-friendly way of using these huge profits and that the money should better be used to fight global warming.

Since September 2014, they are supporting WeForest’s tree planting program in Burkina Faso.

“We’ve already managed to donate $5 Million for the environment and today we celebrate 3 million planted trees!” said Jacey Bingler from Ecosia.

“Together, those trees would cover a third of Paris. Imagine Obama, Merkel, and Hollande meeting in the woods at COP21.”

With this approach, a search engine already financed three million trees since December 2009. Amazing. Let’s spread the words! And you can start donate and plan a tree by searching through this: www.ecosia.org.

Lady in Black

=====

Anyway, selamat sore semuanya. Semoga akhir pekan Anda sekalian menyenangkan.

Safe driving !

Masalah Surat Edaran “Hate Speech”

Social media not a strong factor in Singapore election, research shows

Singapore Campaign_GE2015Apparently Singapore’s political elites wouldn’t worry about the impact of social media to the country’s political activities — at least at the moment.

Despite the fact that political parties already played social media campaign and engagement for the recent general election, a research conducted by Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) shows that mainstream media still played a bigger role.

Like social media trend around the world, Singapore’s social media users were also younger, but they consumed and trusted mainstream media more, the study found.

Today Online wrote:

The Workers’ Party was strong on Facebook, but not on its website. The Singapore Democratic Party had the “Chee Soon Juan factor”, was policy-driven and had strong, powerful videos.

But a conference participant, independent scholar Derek da Cunha felt that with compulsory voting, a social media election is not possible here. “You cannot have an Internet election in Singapore … when you have people including those who are completely indifferent and apolitical — and you will have a huge segment of that … in the population — vote only because the state says they must turn up to vote.” he said.

Dr Soon, however, noted that only 8 per cent of people surveyed expressed no interest at all in political issues.
