Lonelygirl15: How one mysterious Youtuber changed the Internet

In the days when YouTube was still mostly known for its collection of cat videos, there was a fast growing community of confessional video bloggers. They would details their lives in grainy videos. One of these popular Youtubers was Bree, with the username LonelyGirl15. She was a cute self-described dork with great eyebrows. And she wasn’t real. But no one knew that.

In 2006, Jessica Lee Rose and Abu Taleb gave auditions for what they thought were movie roles. But they were actually auditioning for the roles of YouTube vlogger Bree aka LonelyGirl15 and her best friend Daniel, respectively. The idea to start a YouTube web series was of Miles Beckett and Mesh Flinders, with this plot: the protagonist, Bree, is a homeschooled 16-year-old. She spends her time on the internet, doing homework or hanging out with the only friend she has, Daniel. She is a cute, seemingly happy-go-lucky teenager, who likes science and history … except her parents are part of some strange religion, possibly a cult.

Rose and Abu Taleb were initially hesitant to do the roles because they had both moved to LA for real acting jobs. But they decided to give it a try. The first few videos of LonelyGirl 15 didn’t even feature Bree/Rose. They were mostly video replies to YouTube’s biggest stars. Beckett and Flinders worked on catching the audience’s attention as LonelyGirl15 posted more and more.

Then, Bree was introduced to the YouTube world.

Flinder’s room featured as Bree’s bedroom. Eventually, Daniel was also introduced. People took a liking to Bree. She was cute, funny and charming. Behind the scene, the team would reply to every single comment on the videos in order to boost their profile and add more views. Becket also figured out an algorithm that would allow them to choose their freeze frame, adding more views. Bree was becoming immensely popular. The team had to scrap their initial plan of making an independent film as it couldn’t compete with the kind of attention they were getting on YouTube.

But as Bree’s popularity increased, so did the suspicions. Theories about LonelyGirl15 being a hoax spread on lonelygirl15.com’s forum. Three of the forum’s members investigated proof that Lonelygirl15 was fake. But no one had any concrete proof. It was Mathew Foremski, son of journalist Tom Foremski, who found evidence that linked Rose to Bree.

It was time for LonelyGirl15 to come clean. The team held a press conference with everyone worried about a negative reaction. But after the reveal, the show ran for two years. The series delved into alternate reality gaming and there was also a UK spin-off and a sequel called Lonelygirl15: the Resistance. LonelyGirl15 also became the first YouTube series to feature product placement. LonelyGirl15 had changed the world of vlogging.

Rose now lives in Australia and still acts while Abu Taleb produces his own videos. The entire team of LonelyGirl15 has fond memories of the experience but agree that now on YouTube no one would be able to get away with this as people are more skeptical.

Asumsi Yang Keliru

Jumlah penduduk Indonesia (2014) : 252 juta (1)

Perkiraan jumlah orang sakit : 76.482.000 = 30,35% (2)
Jumlah anak kecil (belum baligh) : 31.558.738 = 12,5% (5)
Jumlah non-muslim : 29.566.000 = 11,73% (6)
Jumlah perempuan haid : 11.505.557 = 4,56% (7)
Jumlah ibu menyusui : 11.252.687 = 4,46% (4)
Jumlah ibu hamil : 4.914.000 = 1,95% (3)

(3) Jumlah ibu hamil : (Angka fertilitas x Jumlah penduduk Indonesia) x (9 bulan : 12 bulan)
= 2,60% x 252 juta x (9 bulan : 12 bulan)
= 6.552.000 x 0,75
= 4.914.000
= 1,95%
Persentase fertilitas Indonesia : https://www.bps.go.id/linkTabelStatis/view/id/1271

(4) Jumlah ibu menyusui = jumlah anak berumur dibawah 2 tahun
= SELECT ((SUM(pria) + SUM(wanita)) / 2) FROM test1 WHERE kelompok_usia='"0-4"';
= 22.505.374 : 2
= 11.252.687

(5) Anak kecil = belum baligh (< 10 tahun)
= SELECT (SUM(pria) + SUM(wanita)) FROM test1 WHERE kelompok_usia='"0-4"' or kelompok_usia='"5-6"' or kelompok_usia='7-9';
= 31.558.738

= SELECT SUM(wanita) FROM test1 WHERE kelompok_usia<>'"65+"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"60-64"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"55-59"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"50-54"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"0-4"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"5-6"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"7-9"' AND kelompok_usia<>'"10-12"';
= 69.033.343

= (total umur > 65 tahun) : 4
= SELECT SUM(pria), SUM(wanita) FROM test1 WHERE kelompok_usia='"65+"';
= 11.884.540 : 4
= 2.971.135

LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/processed-data-kependudukan-jenis-kelamin-kelompok-usia-per-kabupaten-kota-sensus-2010.csv'

Sehingga kemudian jadi bisa dilakukan query via SQL (Structured Query Language).

IEEE Tensymp 2016

  • Satriyo Dharmanto, IEEE Indonesia Section Chair
  • Dr. Ford Lumban Gaol, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 General Co-Chair
  • Kuncoro Wastuwibowo, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 General Co-Chair
  • Prof. Gamantyo Hendrantoro, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 TPC Chair

Arahan inilah yang menjadi dasar untuk menyusun tema TENSYMP 2016: Smart Computing, Communications, and Informatics of the Future.

  • Prof. Kukjin Chun: Microelectromechanical Systems Technology Development.
  • Prof. Benjamin Wah: Consistent Synchronization Of Action Order with Least Noticeable Delays Ini MultiPlayer Online Games
  • Prof. Rod van Meter: Analyzing Applications for Quantum Repeater Network
  • Prof. Soegijarjo Soegidjoko, Biomedical Engineering Advances for a Better Life in Developed & Developing Countries
  • Dr. Basuki Yusuf Iskandar

  • IEEE Region 10 Young Professional Gathering
  • IEEE Region 10 Women in Engineering Sharing Session
  • IEEE Region 10 Education Activities Sharing Session
  • IEEE TENSYMP 2016 Industry Forum

Email selengkapnya terlampir, semoga bermanfaat.

IEEE Tensymp 2016

The 2016 IEEE Region 10 Annual Symposium (TENSYMP 2016) has been carried out in Sanur Paradise Plaza, Bali Island, Indonesia, in 9–11 May 2016. TENSYMP is the second flagship conference belongs to the IEEE Region 10. But TENSYMP is relatively new: this event was only the fourth TENSYMP. The aim is to serve IEEE contribution to the development, progress and welfare of countries in the Asia-Pacific region by disseminating technological knowledge and experience.

10symp Logo v13

There were almost 213 papers submitted to the conference this year, of which only 96 papers were accepted, and 72 were presented in this conference. So, acceptance rate was 45%, and attendance rate was 75%. The conference was opened by IEEE Region 10 Director, Ramakrishna Kappagantu, accompanied among others by:

  • Satriyo Dharmanto, IEEE Indonesia Section Chair
  • Dr. Ford Lumban Gaol, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 General Co-Chair
  • Kuncoro Wastuwibowo, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 General Co-Chair
  • Prof. Gamantyo Hendrantoro, IEEE TENSYMP 2016 TPC Chair
  • Dr. Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, Head of Research & HR Development of the Indonesian Ministry of ICT

The topics for TENSYMP 2016 were selected by considering the position of Asia Pacific area as de facto centre for the ICT research, development, and industry. Digital devices, services and applications proliferate in unprecedented growth; but only a small number will become success stories. The others, despite their idealistic technical plan, will succumb the poor access to technology, market, community, or investment. It is the duty of the IEEE Region 10 as a community to arrange a coherence among those technologies, infrastructures, and business opportunities, to accelerate our common growth toward a digital society. Other big challenges are to develop and deploy our technology in meaningful ways – in real applications to enhance the value of human life. This is the expectation to choose the topic of TENSYMP 2016: Smart Computing, Communications, and Informatics of the Future. While we carry out deeper researches on those smart services and platforms; we keep in mind that our works are to enhance the quality of life.

On the Opening Speech, IEEE Region 10 Director Ramakrishna Kappagantu mentioned that with TENSYMP, IEEE Region 10 aims:

  • To provide a prestigious international forum for specialist presentations and interactions in one or more areas of Electrical, Electronics, Computer and Information technology through papers, exhibitions, plenary talk, tutorials, and other activities;
  • To contribute to the development, progress and welfare of countries in the Asia-Pacific region by disseminating technological knowledge and experience.
  • To encourage the study and discussion of technology and technological applications in a broad social, political and human context;
  • To polish and boost the interpersonal and professional skills of volunteers with the guidance of leaders and the renowned personalities in the respective field of Engineering & Technology.

The conference presented five prominent keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Kukjin Chun: Microelectromechanical Systems Technology Development.
  • Prof. Benjamin Wah: Consistent Synchronization Of Action Order with Least Noticeable Delays Ini MultiPlayer Online Games
  • Prof. Rod van Meter: Analyzing Applications for Quantum Repeater Network
  • Prof. Soegijarjo Soegidjoko, Biomedical Engineering Advances for a Better Life in Developed & Developing Countries
  • Dr. Basuki Yusuf Iskandar

The conference also presented 7 tutorial sessions, presenting tutorial speakers from spreading countries in Asia Pacific Region.

There was a Gala Dinner session on the first night of the conference, attended by all participants of the conference, and also by Prof Kukjin Chun as the Director-Elect of IEEE Region 10.

Other programs related to IEEE TENSYMP 2016 were, among others:

  • IEEE Region 10 Young Professional Gathering
  • IEEE Region 10 Women in Engineering Sharing Session
  • IEEE Region 10 Education Activities Sharing Session
  • IEEE TENSYMP 2016 Industry Forum

Handphone (bekas) Sebagai IoT?

Akhir-akhir ini topik Internet of Things (IoT) sedang naik daun.

Maklum hp lama.) Mereka menungu untuk dioprek.

DSC_4520 0001

Handphone bekas vs IoT board

Handphone memiliki kemampuan komputasi yang tidak kalah. Prosesornya bagus.

Gimana?

Zhang Wei, Chinese’s top online novelist

Zhang Wei, Chinese's top online novelist

Zhang Wei has made his fortune from the internet. He is China’s wealthiest –“an online fantasy writer who earned 110 million yuan (over $16 million) in royalties last year”– and most prolific internet novelist sees room for ‘boundless imagination’ in digital fiction.

The Sixth Tone wrote:

The staggering amount — more than “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin’s estimated annual income of $15 million — most recently earned the 35-year-old Beijinger the top spot in a ranking of China’s richest online writers for the fourth year running.

Born in 1956 in the small seaside town of Longkou, Shangdong Province, in Mainland China, Zhang Wei spent his early years in a forested area in Shangdong Province. Much under the influence of his family, he began writing at an early age. He published his long poem “Visiting the Bugler” when he was seventeen.

In order to escape his family’s political difficulties he left home to wander the Shandong peninsula alone for many years. In 1979 he was enrolled in the Chinese Department of Yantai Normal Institute of Shangdong Province to study creative writing.

Since then he has published over seventy individual volumes of various kinds of writings, including novels, poems, prose, and essays. A conscientious and assiduous writer, Zhang has shadings of strong romanticism and idealism in addition to a nearly mystical affection for nature.

In 1982 he won his first national literary prize. Since then he has been awarded more than thirty important national and international literary prizes. This has made him one of China’s most influential and most prominent authors.

In 1987, while serving as vice-chairman of the Shandong Writer’s Association and vice-chairman of the United Youth Association, Zhang was appointed vice-mayor of Longkou, the city of his birth.

However, not long after that Zhang left the position of his own accord, and moved to live in a small cottage on the outskirts of Longkou. He lived there with his aged mother for over five years. During that time he submerged himself primarily in writing September’s Fable, a novel that has significant impact on the Chinese literary scene.

Zhang began to write online novels in 2004. “In my opinion, internet fiction is the simplest form of spiritual enjoyment accessible to the general public. My readers come from all walks of life, and read internet fiction to relax in their spare time,” he told the Sixth Tone.

“If a writer expects loyalty from their readers, they must first be loyal to their readers. My team organizes a lot of interactive events with fans on platforms such as microblogging platform Weibo, messaging app WeChat, and Baidu’s forum community Tieba,” he said.

Concentrating on writing, Zhang has always avoided publicity and associations. He rarely makes public appearances. Among the heavyweight Chinese authors he is perhaps the only “hermit.”
